Matt Crossman Profile B W 2 1

Matt is a freelance writer based out of St. Louis, Missouri. He spent six years covering local politics in newspapers, 13 years at a national sports magazine primarily as a features writer, and nine years as a freelance writer covering a range of topics. He’s been published in Washington Post, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Men’s Health, The Sporting News, NASCAR.com, and many others. He’s written profiles, sports, travel, and adventure but he’s content agnostic—if the story is good, he wants to tell it.

He’s won awards for everything from a profile of architect nuns who design sacred space to watching Jeff Gordon’s appearance on Saturday Night Live with him in his basement.

Fun fact: he’s the only writer in the 126-year history of The Sporting News to appear on the cover. He had to shove a plastic car in his mouth for the photo, but that hasn’t stopped him from bragging about it.
